Behind every great scientific idea, there is a moment of curiosity, which could be an unanswered question, a bold hypothesis, or a desire to create change. But transforming that idea into something impactful and something simple to share requires more than knowledge. It requires guidance, reflection, and the confidence to share it with the world.
This is exactly what the STREAM IT Mentoring Programme was all about, you can read it here for the first time we posted about the launch of this wonderful journey. Heading towards the National Science Communication Competition, it is safe to say that it was a true showcase of dedication and craftsmanship from the mentees.
The 12 mentees who prevailed from all levels of education had diverse backgrounds studying in fields such as Biotechnology, Medical Science, Cells and Molecular Biology, Computer Science, Biophysics, Cryomedicine, Chemical Engineering and Material Sciences. Guided by mentors Corinne Trang, PhD Arwa Mustafa, and Inese Podgaiska, they learned to shape their ideas, articulate their value, and connect their research to real-world impact.
Finding Their Voice & Reflections
One of the most transformative aspects of the programme was its strong emphasis on communication. During the last sessions, participants refined their presentations, learning to convey their research with clarity, confidence, and purpose. With guidance from mentors and expert reviewers, they developed stronger storytelling skills, sharpened the real-world impact of their work, and learned how to engage a range of audiences effectively.
The final session before the national competition brought everything together through reflection. Participants looked back on their journey, considering what they had learned, how they had evolved, and what they would carry forward. Supported by their mentors, they exchanged insights, shared feedback, and expressed their aspirations for the future.
What stood out most was not only the progress of their projects, but also their personal growth. They emerged with greater confidence, clearer direction, and a stronger sense of belonging within the innovation and STEAM ecosystem.
