The project’s mission is to empower girls, particularly aged 14-18, and foster a more
diverse and supportive STEM ecosystem. By identifying the barriers these groups face
and creating solutions, STREAM IT aims to prepare the way for systemic change in
STEM education.
A key focus of STREAM IT is on research and creating gender-inclusive tools. The
project examines the barriers that girls and women encounter in STEM education,
exploring the role of institutions in encouraging girls to pursue STEM subjects. Through
comprehensive research, STREAM IT synthesizes insights from past studies and
identifies existing gaps, ensuring that educational institutions and educators can better
address these challenges.
The project is also focused on developing innovative, gender- and diversity-inclusive
toolkits for hands-on STEM activities. These toolkits are part of a wider initiative that
includes workshops, mentoring programs, and interactive sessions at science centers
and museums. These activities are designed to engage young girls in STEM through
practical experiences, making these subjects more accessible and inspiring them to
pursue STEM careers. Mentoring programs connect girls with STEM professionals,
offering guidance and serving as a source of inspiration, which boosts their confidence
in exploring STEM fields.
In addition to creating these tools, STREAM IT aims to establish sustainable,
collaborative networks for long-term impact. National Inspiration Hubs have been set up
to support STEM educators by offering training and resources. These hubs provide an
essential space for peer-to-peer learning, ensuring that educators have the skills to
promote gender-inclusive STEM education in their communities. By focusing on
educators and institutions, the project ensures that STEM environments become more
supportive and inclusive for students, particularly girls.
Beyond the national networks, STREAM IT is also creating a Virtual Makerspace—an
online platform that connects stakeholders across Europe. This platform facilitates the
exchange of best practices, resources, and tools. It fosters collaboration among
educators, policymakers, and industry leaders, helping to advance gender equality in
STEM. The Virtual Makerspace will ensure that the knowledge generated during the
project reaches a wide audience and continues to have an impact beyond its duration.
STREAM IT also plays a role in shaping EU policy. The project organizes policy
dialogue webinars and a final hybrid conference in 2026, bringing together key
stakeholders to discuss the challenges and opportunities in achieving gender equality in
STEM. These events offer a space for gathering input, refining strategies, and
influencing policies that promote gender inclusivity.
Through its focus on research, hands-on learning, network-building, and policy
dialogues, STREAM IT aims to create lasting change in STEM education. The project’s
efforts will not only provide immediate solutions but also lay the foundation for a more
inclusive future. By supporting girls to pursue STEM careers and equipping educators
with the tools they need to create inclusive environments, STREAM IT is helping build a
more diverse and innovative STEM landscape.
Ultimately, STREAM IT is more than just a project—it is part of a movement to ensure
STEM is accessible, inclusive, and empowering for all. The project aims to create a
future where innovation thrives because all talents, regardless of gender, are
recognized. STREAM IT is empowering the next generation of creators, innovators, and
problem-solvers to shape the world of tomorrow.
We are pleased to be part of the STREAM IT project. This initiative aligns with our mission and vision to empower women and the next generation of girls to excel in STEAM.
